One Night in Naha

The last June 27th, I had the luck to be invited by Kinjo sensei and the USA Koburyu to attend an on-line seminar with Naha.

The original On-Line Zoom was planned to learn Koburyu Kobudo and Kinjo sensei kindly proposed to change the session to learn Karate basics and present us deeply the principles of the Koburyu Karate.

Night session

As already explained I met Kinjo sensei in 2019 and I kept the contact with him.
When he proposed me to attend Koburyu session, I was super happy.
The only point I forgot was the time slot… as it was a US dedicated the time slot was 8:30 AM in Japan (6:00 PM Western time) and 1:30 AM for me ….
No matter the nighty slot, I took 2 coffees and it was OK.

Ready for night session

Susan Crow (Koburyu USA) arranged everything and I was able ton connect.
I take the opportunity of this post to thank Susan and all the USA Koburyu for welcoming me in this event.

The 3 levels of Kata

Before Okinawa connected to the zoom we had 30 minutes introduction with the members of Koburyu USA. It was the opportunity for me to meet the members I was knowing through facebook and my instagram friend @rodneymeester in real.

During the session, Kaicho Kinjo sensei took lot of time to explain the evolution he made based on Uechi-Ryu system.
He explained in depth the aim of the 3 levels of Koburyu Kata execution and we worked on Kanshiwa and seisan kata.

Kaicho Kinjo sensei, Masami sensei & Ryuji sensei (Fukuoka)

All the techniques were demonstrated by Kaicho Kinjo sensei himself with the help of Masami sensei and Ryuji sensei (from Fukuoka).
The Koburyu school is super interesting as it helps us to move in a different manner; we can find too in this systems some modernized old version of the katas (typically the things I love).

Next Steps

It was a fantastic session and I am impatient to attend the next session.
I will continue to train and learn Koburyu as it is a super powerful system and a fantastic complement to traditional Uechi-Ryu training.

Thank you so much Kaicho Kinjo sensei, Masami sensei, Ryuji sensei and Su sensei, またね。

P.S: you can find additional information on my Koburyu website (Koburyu-Karate.com) and on USA Koburyu website (koburyu.org)
